So, you’ve met your soulmate and have decided that a big, traditional wedding isn’t your jam? Let’s face it - wedding planning is stressful, there are so many expectations and the pressure that couples face to appease those around them can become overwhelming. That’s where I come in! I’m Erin of Boston, your go to guide to getting hitched in the city, easily and without any stress. Keep reading to find out how.

Pick a date and do the dang thing! If you want to get married Monday - Friday, choose any city hall in Boston (which already have JPS). If you want to elope on a Saturday or Sunday, hire someone to become ordained. It can be your funny uncle, a family member, a friend - or myself! I’m ordained and ready to marry you. As a reminder, elopements are typically 15 people max.
Apply for a marriage license. Licenses are only good to use for 60 days in Massachusetts from the date you applied. You also can't use the marriage license outside of Massachusetts. You have to get married in the state.
1. It costs $50 to apply.
2. After your appointment, your license will be issued and put in the mail three days later. Or, you can come back after the three-day wait.
3. You need to know who’s marrying you when applying for your license.
4. The person who performed the ceremony needs to complete the marriage license and mail it to the city:

After the wedding, if you want a copy of your marriage certificate it’s $12 in person and $14 by mail.
Get creative. You don’t have to take photos at city hall and go home for the day. We can venture to the Seaport, go to the Arboretum, stroll around the city streets and snap frames inside your favorite dinner spot or, hit up Bunker Hill, enjoy the rose gardens at Fenway - you name it, we can do it.
